USA, Des Plaines, IL, December 12, 2009. In a pilgrimage faithful to that which occurs in Mexico City, many thousands of devout Catholics make the frigid mid-winter trek to Maryville Academy's Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel late on the night of December 11, 2009 to make their prayers at the stroke of midnight. In 1531, the "Virgen de Guadalupe," Mexico's revered icon, appeared to peasant Juan Diego as he walked home to Tepeyac Hill - when asked to prove this miracle, the young Virgin Mary produced roses in winter, and a legend was born.
